What gets collected here, what it is used for, and how the contents of a device posted in are handled. Last updated August 2026.

Who we are

Aberdeen Data Recovery works for households and businesses across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, the Highlands and anywhere else in the UK with a post office. Every recovery is carried out in the secure Edinburgh lab at 4 Redheughs Rigg, Westpoint, South Gyle, Edinburgh EH12 9DQ. Want any of this explained? 0800 689 0668 (Mon–Fri 9:00am–5:30pm).

What we collect, and why

The two forms here ask four things of you: a name, a number we can ring, an email address, and whatever you can tell us about the device and its fault. They are used to reply, diagnose, quote and do the work. Nothing is sold, nothing joins anybody's marketing list, and nothing marketing-shaped comes back at you.

The data on your device

Devices are booked into a secure lab and handled by our own engineers, nobody else. Recovered files return to you on encrypted media. Our working copies are securely erased as soon as you confirm receipt. Nobody reads, uses or shares what is on your device beyond what the recovery requires or the law demands.

How long it is all kept

Enquiry records last as long as the job does, and after that only as long as the accounts require. Working copies of recovered data are destroyed once you confirm safe receipt, normally inside a fortnight of the files reaching you.

Your rights

UK GDPR entitles you to see what personal information is held on you, to have errors put right, and to have it deleted once there is no reason to hold it. Ring 0800 689 0668 and it gets done. Unhappy with the way something was handled? Complaints go to the Information Commissioner's Office, at ico.org.uk.
